Terrible Herbst Motorsports wins Pit Crew Challenge again
With record effort to start SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup II
LAS VEGAS–The Terrible Herbst Motorsports pit crew won its second
straight SCORE Terrible’s Pit Crew Challenge Thursday night at the Fremont Street
Experience and trimmed more than four seconds off its record in the process.
The Herbst crew, a group that driver Ed Herbst said “has been with us
forever,” changed four tires and restarted the engine in 48.50 seconds to take
the $5,000 winner’s purse and lead a Las Vegas sweep of the top three places.
The SCORE Trophy-Trucks of Bobby Baldwin and son B.J. Baldwin and crewed
by a team from Collins Racing finished second and third, respectively. Bobby
Baldwin’s stop took 50.97 seconds and B.J. Baldwin’s took 58.75 seconds
Bobby got $3,000 and B.J. $2,000.
It was B.J.’s second straight third-place finish.
The Challenge, which was open to the crews of all the SCORE
Trophy-Trucks entered in the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup II. That event, on a man-made
stadium course that simulates the natural terrain of Baja California and the
Southern Nevada desert, will be run Friday and Saturday nights on the Dirt
Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Racing will begin at 7 p.m. both nights.
Ed Herbst will do the driving in the Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck he
shares with brother Tim in the long-distance desert races. Tim, meanwhile, will
replace brother Troy Herbst in the team’s Class 1 vehicle, Troy having
suffered a torn Achilles during a recent recreational basketball game.
The results:
1. Ed Herbst, Las Vegas, Ford F-150, :48.50 seconds;
2. Bobby Baldwin, Las
Vegas, Chevy Silverado, 50.97;
3. B.J. Baldwin, Las Vegas, Chevy Silverado,
